CBC Sports Oral Histories: The night Jon Montgomery shared a beer with Canada (Jan 20, 2022)

Had to tap this out, to explain Pete’s share…such a great moment!!
I landed in Vancouver early March 2010 to ski with Pete Brennan and Keara Brennan to enjoy being at the 2010 Vancouver winter games.
We drove up to Whistler the next day, saw some cross-country skiing, and pulled up in the village by the Gondola at one of the pavement cafes, to drink beer with the sun going down.
An hour later, Pete has the idea to buy a pitcher for the fresh gold-medal winner of the skeleton. And then that we present it to him when he emerged down the hill from the Gondola.
This is Pete’s share of the memory 6 years ago, when Keara ran through the tables, through the crowd and presented Jon Montgomery with the pitcher, which he then necked live on TV.
Canada had a shoddy start to the games with the Georgian luger killed in practise and the malfunction in the opening ceremony…
Jonny Montgomery’s gold and the “blonde angel with the pitcher” Keara Brennan became known as the turning point of the games…and has been smiled at for months and years since…
This is how it was reported on the news and this skit gives a sense for how this moment went down in Canadian folklore!
